About the fact checker

What does it check?

Checkable claims: statistics, dates, records, who holds which role, and comparisons. Opinions and analysis are skipped, because they aren't facts.

What do the verdicts mean?

Supported: sources agree. Outdated: it was true, but newer figures exist. Contradicted: sources disagree. Misleading: technically true, missing context. Unverifiable: no good source found.

Is it free?

Yes. You can check a few paragraphs a day without an account. A free account adds a one-time audit of 25 pages on your own site and 5 pre-publish checks a month.

Why would I need more than a one-off check?

Facts go stale after you hit publish: figures get revised, office holders change, records get broken. Veritas monitors every page and re-checks time-sensitive claims on a schedule. See plans.
