Chrome extension
Select a sentence, or a whole article, and Veritas checks each statistic, date and claim against sources. Every claim is highlighted right on the page, with a sourced correction when it's wrong or out of date.
Free. No account needed.
Illustrative example.
Right-click a selection, press AltShiftV, or open the side panel and check the whole article. No copying and pasting between tabs.
Checked claims are marked in place: red for needs attention, green for supported, grey for couldn't verify. Click “Show on page” to jump to any claim.
Every verdict comes with its evidence and, when a figure is off, a suggested correction you can see and check yourself.
How it works
Privacy
The extension asks for the smallest set of permissions it can work with. It has no access to your browsing history and runs no code in the background on the sites you visit.
activeTabRead the selection or article on the tab you're on, only after you use the extension there.contextMenusAdds the right-click “Fact-check” items.sidePanelShows the results next to the page.scriptingReads that text and highlights claims on the page.storageRemembers one setting: which Veritas server to use.Read the full privacy policy.
Checkable claims: statistics, dates, records, who holds which role, and comparisons. Opinions and analysis are skipped because they aren't facts. Each claim gets a verdict (supported, outdated, contradicted, misleading or unverifiable), a suggested correction when one exists, and links to the sources used.
Yes. You can run a few checks a day without an account. Each check covers up to 3,000 characters and 5 claims. A free Veritas account adds a one-time audit of 25 pages on your own site.
Only the text you choose to check, and only when you ask: from the right-click menu, the keyboard shortcut or the side panel. It doesn't read pages in the background, has no access to your browsing history and doesn't track you. Details are in the privacy policy.
Chrome 116 or newer. It uses Chrome's side panel, so other Chromium browsers may work but aren't officially supported yet.
It uses the same fact-checking engine. The extension is for checking what you read. The Veritas platform monitors every page on your own site on a schedule and gives editors a sourced fix when a fact goes stale. See how it works.
Add Veritas to Chrome and check your next article in a couple of clicks. Publishing your own? Veritas can monitor every page on your site, too.
